Amazon, the American corporation and one of the world`s largest retailers, has announced reaching the milestone of deploying its millionth robot. The company shared this achievement in a press release on its website.
The one-millionth robot was placed into operation at a fulfillment center in Japan. Globally, the corporation operates approximately 300 facilities. “We started in 2012 with one type of robot that could move shelves with goods across warehouse floors. Today, we operate a diverse fleet of robots,” the company stated.
The IT giant also revealed the creation of a generative artificial intelligence (AI) model called DeepFleet, designed to manage the robots. Specifically, this neural network will coordinate the movement of machines in warehouses, aiming to reduce robot travel time by ten percent.
The company boasted that DeepFleet will allow them to decrease order processing time, lower operational costs, and reduce energy consumption. “We manufacture our robots in the United States, working with local suppliers and deploying them globally,” the firm highlighted.
In related news from late May, Amazon received permission to deliver iPhones and other gadgets via drones in the United States. These unmanned aerial vehicles will lift items weighing up to 2.27 kilograms and drop them off to customers.
