Bakanov Outlines Roscosmos’s Low-Orbit Satellite Communication Launch Plans

Dmitry Bakanov, the Director General of Roscosmos, has announced that a comprehensive commercial low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication service, developed by a private company, is projected to be fully operational by 2027. This key development was shared by Bakanov during his presentation at the recent Satcomrus conference.

Bakanov emphasized that the Russian market for space technology is currently undergoing a dynamic transformation. As part of the ambitious national “Space” project, there are plans to bring eight “Express” series satellites into active service by 2030, significantly expanding the country`s space infrastructure.

In addition to these initiatives, specialized efforts are underway to bolster connectivity in the Arctic region. This will involve the deployment of four “Express-RV” highly elliptical orbit satellites, a relay system composed of four “Luch” geostationary satellites, and a new low-Earth orbit network. These advancements aim to provide robust and reliable communication capabilities in challenging polar environments.
