Barry Keoghan Says Online Abuse Makes Him Want to Withdraw from Public Life

Oscar-nominated actor Barry Keoghan has revealed the devastating impact of online abuse on his life, stating that relentless criticism about his appearance has made him want to “not go outside” anymore. The Irish star, acclaimed for his powerful performances, described how the overwhelming online hate has led him to feel like he’s “hiding away,” adding that it’s reached a point where he questions if he wants to “even be on screen any more.”

Keoghan, who is slated to portray Ringo Starr in Sam Mendes’ highly anticipated Beatles film series, had previously decided to leave social media in 2024 in an attempt to escape the barrage of negativity. Despite this, he explains that the lingering effects of the abuse continue to make him “shy away” from the public eye, affecting his daily life and even prompting him to consider stepping back from his acting career altogether.
