British Novelist Gwendoline Riley Awarded $175,000 Windham-Campbell Prize

British novelist Gwendoline Riley has been honored with a prestigious $175,000 Windham-Campbell Prize, making her one of eight writers globally to receive the substantial award this year. This significant prize recognizes outstanding literary contributions across various genres, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama, providing laureates with considerable financial support to allow them to dedicate more time to their craft.

Among the other distinguished recipients for this year’s Windham-Campbell Prizes, which collectively distribute $1.4 million annually, are Australian playwright S Shakthidharan (also known as Shakthi), American author Adam Ehrlich Sachs, and Jamaican writer Kei Miller. The esteemed award aims to alleviate financial pressures, empowering acclaimed authors to further their creative endeavors without distraction and focus on their life’s work.
