Crew Dragon Successfully Docks with ISS, Delivering Russian Cosmonaut Platonov

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Crew Dragon spacecraft, with Russian cosmonaut Oleg Platonov among its crew, has successfully docked with the International Space Station (ISS). NASA provided a live broadcast of this significant event.

The launch of the Falcon-9 rocket, carrying the Crew Dragon capsule, took place at 6:43 PM Moscow time on August 1st, originating from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The mission had initially been set for Thursday, July 31st, but was postponed by 24 hours due to adverse weather conditions.

Aside from Platonov, the international crew includes American astronauts Zina Cardman, serving as commander, and Michael Fincke, the pilot. They are joined by Kimiya Yui, a specialist representing the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

It is anticipated that shortly after this new crew’s arrival and the successful docking, the preceding Crew Dragon spacecraft will initiate its return journey to Earth. Onboard that returning capsule are Roscosmos cosmonaut Kirill Peskov, NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nicole Ayers, and Japanese astronaut Takuya Onishi.
