MOSCOW – The Crew Dragon spacecraft, carrying Russian cosmonaut Kirill Peskov, has successfully returned to Earth, as announced by the Russian state space corporation Roscosmos.
Prior to its return, the Crew Dragon, with Peskov aboard, had undocked from the International Space Station (ISS).
“The Crew Dragon spacecraft with Roscosmos cosmonaut Kirill Peskov has returned to Earth,” Roscosmos stated in a message on its official Telegram channel.
Joining the Russian cosmonaut on the journey back to Earth were NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nicole Ayers, along with JAXA astronaut Takuya Onishi. Roscosmos noted that the crew would now begin the process of readapting to terrestrial conditions.
Roscosmos further elaborated on the post-landing procedures. A rescue vessel is set to retrieve the crew from their splashdown location for initial medical assessments. Unlike Soyuz landings, where medical procedures are typically conducted immediately near the landing site in a tent, the Crew Dragon protocol involves pickup by a specialized vessel. Following this, at a dedicated sanatorium, the crew will undergo comprehensive medical examinations by various specialists, including a therapist, ophthalmologist, and neurologist. They will also undertake tests to evaluate the restoration of blood circulation after the change in body position. Subsequently, their rehabilitation program will commence, incorporating physical therapy exercises, massage, and swimming or gymnastics in a pool. After completing his initial rehabilitation period in the United States, Peskov is scheduled to return to Russia.
