Dangers of Online Ticket Scams: Criminal Liability for Buyers

Cybersecurity expert Konstantin Gorbunov warns the public against acquiring event tickets through unofficial online channels, highlighting the significant risk of facing criminal prosecution.

Purchasing tickets for events, particularly concerts, from private individuals online can lead to serious legal consequences for the buyer, including criminal prosecution. This warning was issued by web developer and cybersecurity expert Konstantin Gorbunov from the “Code of Security” company in an interview with “Gazeta.Ru”.

Gorbunov explained that scammers frequently offer tickets at reduced prices in specialized online communities and groups. After payment, the victim either does not receive the ticket at all, or it turns out to be invalid because it has already been used, or even stolen. The expert emphasized that in the case of purchasing a stolen ticket, the buyer risks becoming involved in a criminal investigation.

Additionally, cybercriminals actively use phishing websites that mimic official ticket sales platforms. They precisely replicate the design of original sites and use similar domain names, differing only in minor details, to deceive unsuspecting users.

Earlier, this issue was highlighted by creative producer and participant of the popular show “Women`s Stand-up,” Irina Myagkova. She warned her fans about scammers selling fake tickets to her performances. One case, described by her subscriber, revealed that fraudsters were selling multiple tickets for the same seats in the hall via the Telegram messenger.
