Earth is currently experiencing its most powerful magnetic storm since the beginning of this summer. Sergey Bogachev, head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, announced a significant intensification of geomagnetic oscillations.
Latest measurements indicate that the Kp geomagnetic activity index has soared to 7.33. This level corresponds to a strong G3+ category magnetic storm on the standard 5-point scale.
The specialist highlighted that an event of comparable magnitude was last observed on the very first day of summer, when the Sun emitted a substantial prominence directed towards our planet. Bogachev further stressed that the space environment surrounding Earth remains complex due to heightened solar activity.
This increased solar activity can lead to various effects, including disturbances in satellite communications, power grid fluctuations, and vivid aurora displays in regions not typically known for them.
