Checking SIM cards can effectively help Russians protect their savings from fraudsters. This effective method to guard against scammer attempts was revealed by Alexander Dubrovin, an expert from the company Edna.
He explained that Russian banks use various methods to protect client funds. One of these is the verification of IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) – a unique code of the SIM card that is stored by mobile operators.
According to Dubrovin, using IMSI verification, financial institutions can instantly receive up-to-date information about the status of a client`s SIM card when they log into a banking application, pay for an online order, or change their contact number in the personal account settings. If the code changes, banks become suspicious that malicious actors may have gained access to the application. This method of verification helps to significantly reduce the risks of fund theft.
“The service works automatically and seamlessly, reducing the risks of theft and making life easier for financial companies of any size,” Dubrovin added.
In related news, users of iPhone mobile devices were previously warned about a current scam scheme. It was reported that attackers are blocking victims` devices and then demanding a ransom.
