The exhibition “Science in the North Caucasus: The Route is Laid” has officially opened in Kislovodsk, showcasing contemporary scientific achievements and groundbreaking innovations developed within Russia`s North Caucasian Federal District. The North Caucasus Federal University (NCFU) is the principal organizer of this significant event.
Tatiana Shebzukhova, the Acting Rector of NCFU, underscored the critical need for engaging and accessible formats to convey scientific information to young people. She explained, “To foster an interest in science among youth, dynamic methods of information delivery are absolutely essential. As part of the `New Route` project, we have meticulously planned a diverse range of activities, including extensive lectures, stimulating competitions, interactive discussions with students, screenings of captivating science documentaries, and, of course, these exhibitions. The overarching objective of these varied communication approaches is to elevate the appeal of science and scientists in the public consciousness and to inspire the younger generation to embark on fulfilling scientific careers.”
Andrey Gorbachev, the project leader and Director of the Media Communications Department at NCFU`s Higher School of Creative Industries, further clarified the exhibition`s central theme. He stated that the display is specifically designed to highlight the substantial and impactful contributions made by scientists from the North Caucasian Federal District to the broader landscape of Russian science. The exhibition is thoughtfully presented in two prominent locations: the venerable and historic Narzan Gallery building in Kislovodsk, as well as an additional, modern venue on the NCFU campus.
The exhibition is thoughtfully structured into nine distinct thematic sections, each meticulously dedicated to various cutting-edge research areas currently being pursued by prominent scientific centers across the North Caucasus region. Key fields of intensive focus prominently featured include astrophysics, the intricate world of organic chemistry, comprehensive Caucasian studies (known as balneology or resort medicine), revolutionary advanced nanotechnology, the innovative realm of plasma medicine, and the pioneering development of ultra-strong polymer materials. According to the organizing committee, each of these specialized directions plays an indispensable role in the rigorous training of highly skilled professionals who are in immense demand across both the bustling industrial sector and the academic scientific community. Furthermore, these areas collectively establish a clear direction for the seamless integration of new and transformative technologies into contemporary educational environments.
Scheduled to run until the middle of October, this impactful exhibition is widely expected to significantly cultivate and deepen young people`s intrinsic interest in scientific pursuits and the prospects of a scientific career. It aims to actively elevate and solidify the positive public image of scientists, to widely publicize the groundbreaking accomplishments and discoveries of dedicated researchers, and to effectively popularize the challenging yet rewarding work undertaken within strategically vital economic sectors and the crucial social sphere.
This comprehensive exhibition stands as an integral and pivotal component of the expansive “New Route” festival, a large-scale event meticulously orchestrated by NCFU with the steadfast financial and organizational backing of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Its planning and execution are in direct alignment with the broader, overarching goals and strategic initiatives set forth for the national Decade of Science and Technology, reflecting a concerted effort to advance scientific literacy and innovation across the country.
