A major cyberattack has recently come to light, targeting network systems used within the U.S. government. Reports indicate that hackers successfully compromised Cisco firewalls, likely leading to the infiltration of critical infrastructure. In response to the incident, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has issued a statement.

CISA promptly issued a directive mandating federal agencies to conduct a thorough examination of their systems for Cisco firewall vulnerabilities, as well as to detect and neutralize any potential breaches. Chris Butera, a CISA representative, also urged other governmental bodies and the private sector to adopt similar security measures.

While the specific agencies affected by the breach and the full extent of the damage have not been officially disclosed, Butera described the threat to U.S. government devices as widespread. CISA has confirmed that these cyberattacks impacted critical infrastructure facilities.

Cisco, the manufacturer of the affected equipment, stated in its official report that the current cyberattack was highly likely carried out by the same hacking groups responsible for a similar campaign in 2024, known as “ArcaneDoor”.
