Hacker groups Silent Crow and “Cyberpartisans BY” have claimed responsibility for the recent disruptions experienced by Aeroflot`s information systems. In a statement posted on Telegram, they announced a “large-scale and prolonged operation” which, according to their claims, resulted in the complete compromise and destruction of the airline`s internal IT infrastructure.
The hackers allege that they maintained unauthorized access within Aeroflot`s corporate network for approximately a year. During this extensive period, they claim to have extracted a comprehensive dataset including flight history records, gained access to critical corporate systems, and even compromised the personal computers of various employees, including members of the airline`s senior management.
Silent Crow further asserts that the total volume of data exfiltrated from Aeroflot`s systems exceeds 20 terabytes. The cybercriminals also state that this sophisticated attack led to the theft of personal data belonging to Russian citizens who have utilized Aeroflot`s services.
Prior to these claims, it was reported that the Prosecutor`s Office had initiated monitoring of the situation regarding Aeroflot`s system malfunction and was conducting oversight activities into the operational issues.
Earlier on the morning of July 28, Aeroflot officially confirmed a significant failure in its information systems. This widespread outage subsequently led to the cancellation of dozens of flights, causing considerable disruption to passenger travel and operations.
Note: The claims made by the hacker groups are presented as reported by them and have not been independently verified at the time of this publication. Official confirmations regarding the extent of the alleged damage are pending.
