Cybercriminals have initiated attacks on Russian companies by exploiting smart gadgets. RTM Group disclosed this novel method of attack to “Gazeta.Ru,” highlighting how hackers are now launching cyberattacks on businesses through various smart devices.
Research conducted by RTM Group reveals that hackers are gaining unauthorized access to confidential information belonging to Russian enterprises. They achieve this by compromising seemingly innocuous devices such as portable speakers, charging stations, and even heated mugs.
“These devices, which appear harmless, are being transformed into `Trojan horses` to deploy ransomware and facilitate the exfiltration of sensitive data,” the company warned.
Furthermore, RTM Group pointed out that another significant vulnerability arises from employees installing unapproved third-party applications on their work computers, which also grants cybercriminals access to proprietary company data.
The company has urged Russian businesses to critically reassess and strengthen their cybersecurity frameworks. Key recommendations include conducting thorough inventories of all work-related devices and servers to identify and address potential vulnerabilities.
In related news, a critical misconception among Russians concerning smartphone data was highlighted: merely resetting a device to its factory settings does not ensure complete data erasure.
