HBO Max pins hopes on Friends and Harry Potter to win UK streaming war

Warner Bros. Discovery’s HBO Max service recently launched in the highly saturated UK streaming market. As a relative newcomer in a niche where competition is constantly growing and overall subscriber growth is slowing, the platform aims to establish itself as an indispensable service. To achieve this, HBO Max is offering attractive prices for direct subscriptions and special bundle deals through Sky. The key strategy is to leverage iconic content, such as the TV series ‘Friends’ and the ‘Harry Potter’ films, to attract and retain British viewers in an ecosystem that Netflix fundamentally changed 14 years ago.
