Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA – Dmitry Bakanov, the head of Roscosmos, has announced that Sean Duffy, the acting administrator of NASA, confirmed the American space agency`s willingness and readiness to extend the agreement for integrated flights to the International Space Station (ISS) between the two nations` space entities.
Bakanov stated that while the formal signing of the agreement is a legal procedure, reaching a principal understanding on the extension was paramount. He expressed satisfaction that NASA`s new chief, who also serves as the US Secretary of Transportation, affirmed their desire and readiness to prolong this crucial accord for the period beyond 2026.
The original agreement, signed by Roscosmos and NASA in July 2022, is vital for ensuring the International Space Station`s reliable operation. This program guarantees the continuous presence of at least one Russian cosmonaut and one American astronaut aboard the ISS, providing essential redundancy and safety measures, especially in the event of unforeseen circumstances or emergencies.
