Hubble Telescope Accidentally Records Comet Disintegrating Live

In a remarkable stroke of cosmic luck, NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope achieved a long-sought observation: witnessing a comet’s fragmentation in real-time. This rare event, which astronomers have previously attempted to capture without success, unfolded serendipitously. Comet C/2025 K1 (ATLAS) was not the primary focus of the research, but when scientists redirected the telescope’s gaze, they inadvertently documented its mid-disintegration into multiple distinct fragments.
