“I’ll Go Back to Cycling”: Amid Geopolitical Tensions, Why Are Diesel Prices Surging Faster Than Gasoline?

This Friday, consumers observed a marked increase in fuel prices at the pumps. While the average price for Super Unleaded 98 (SP98) reached 1.9206 euros, reflecting a 10-centime increment, and SP95 and E10 followed suit with prices of 1.8715 euros and 1.8158 euros respectively, diesel fuel (gazole) experienced a considerably steeper rise. Its average cost escalated to 1.9717 euros, a substantial 25-centime jump. This disparity is fueling concerns and discussions about the disproportionate impact of geopolitical tensions, such as the conflict in Iran, on the pricing dynamics of diesel compared to other fuel types.
