‘I was getting down with a guy and he decided to put on One Love. It was creepy’: Duncan James from Blue’s honest playlist

Blue singer Duncan James recently offered a candid look into his personal playlist, sharing everything from surprising musical preferences to laugh-out-loud anecdotes. He kicked off the conversation with a particularly memorable, and somewhat ‘creepy,’ experience: ‘I was getting down with a guy and he decided to put on One Love. It was creepy.’ This honesty sets the tone for a truly unfiltered musical journey.

Beyond unexpected encounters, James revealed his belief that the Danish-Norwegian pop group Aqua deserves genuine respect. He also shared insights into a record he once purchased specifically to please his nan, which, he admits, yielded somewhat mixed results.

Among the songs he knows every lyric to without fail, Duncan cites Elvis Presley’s timeless classic, “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” This particular track holds a significant personal connection, as it was the very song he submitted on tape for his audition to become a member of Blue.

When it comes to karaoke, James vividly recalls his 30th birthday celebration, hosted at a karaoke bar located above a Chinese restaurant. A truly unforgettable moment unfolded when his mother was enthusiastically singing Geri Halliwell’s “It’s Raining Men.” Coincidentally, Geri Halliwell herself entered the venue at that precise moment. Without hesitation, Duncan’s mum seized Geri, pulling her onto the stage with an insistence: “Sing! It’s your song!” Duncan’s immediate internal thought was, “Mum. She’s just arrived. Chill out!” This candid exploration of his musical world offers a blend of humor, personal history, and a touch of the unexpected.
