Residents across the Japanese islands of Kyushu, Shikoku, and the Kinki region on the main island of Honshu are actively sharing their experiences of a mysterious glowing orb witnessed falling through the sky on Tuesday night. This celestial event has sparked widespread discussion on Japanese social media platforms.
Reports of the descending luminous object began to surface on Japanese social media around 11:10 PM local time on Tuesday (5:10 PM Moscow time).
By Wednesday, video footage of what is believed to be a bolide was broadcast by leading Japanese television channels. NHK, for instance, aired clips captured by its stationary cameras located at various airports nationwide, including Kansai International Airport in Osaka.
Currently, there have been no reports of any damage or incidents associated with this occurrence.
Toshihisa Maeda, director of the Sendai Astronomical Observatory, commented on the situation to a television channel, stating: “I believe there is no doubt that this glowing object was a bolide. It is highly probable that it fell into the ocean as a meteorite.”
