The peninsula is still experiencing seismic tremors ranging from 3.5 to 6.7 magnitude. Furthermore, in the wake of the recent earthquake, regional volcanoes such as Bezymianny, Shiveluch, Karymsky, and Klyuchevskoy have become more active.

Over one hundred aftershocks have been registered in Kamchatka over the past day following Wednesday`s significant earthquake, as reported by the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Tremors ranging from 3.5 to 6.7 magnitude are still being felt across the peninsula. As of the morning of August 1st, 190 individuals were housed in previously established temporary shelters, and psychologists are working with some of the residents.
Furthermore, in the wake of the most powerful earthquake since 1952, several regional volcanoes—Bezymianny, Shiveluch, Karymsky, and Klyuchevskoy—have shown increased activity. Lava flowing from Klyuchevskoy is threatening to melt the Bogdanovich glacier, which, in turn, could lead to the formation of dangerous mudflows, according to the “Volcanoes of Kamchatka” Nature Park.
Tourists are advised to refrain from visiting local natural attractions. Evgeny Sivaev, editor-in-chief of “Kamchatskoye Vremya” newspaper, provides insight into the regional situation:

“Aftershocks are continuing, though they have slightly decreased since July 30th, with about 30 to 40 imperceptible tremors and one or two perceptible ones occurring daily. As for Klyuchevskoy volcano, its eruption history is entirely unrelated to the earthquake; different tectonic processes are at play. However, it is an active volcano, the highest in Eurasia, constantly in motion. It`s also located 800 kilometers from Petropavlovsk by road, while the earthquake was 160 kilometers away in a completely different area, Avacha Bay, where powerful tectonic processes are taking place. It`s unclear whether these are true aftershocks, a period of calm, or a prelude to another major earthquake. No scientists are commenting on this, as forecasting is a thankless task, and short-term predictions are impossible. So, people are currently relying on themselves. Regarding public sentiment, people are trying to leave the city, especially with the weekend approaching. All our dachas are full, and prices for dachas and garages have sharply increased in Kamchatka. This means people, while they believe in science, are largely hoping for the best themselves. What else can be said? In principle, there`s no widespread panic, but people are stocking up on food — canned meat, condensed milk, sugar — just in case. There are also queues at gas stations, meaning some are taking gasoline and diesel to their dachas to have a supply.”
The Bogdanovich and Erman glaciers have previously been affected by eruptions from Klyuchevskoy volcano in 2023. A similar situation then resulted in the melting of glaciers, causing rapid mudflows down the Sukhaya and Studenaya rivers, which subsequently damaged the Kozyrevsk – Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky highway.
