Kinks’ Dave Davies Defends ‘Lola’ After Moby Labels It ‘Gross and Transphobic’

The Kinks’ co-founder and guitarist, Dave Davies, has strongly refuted electronic musician Moby’s recent criticism of their 1970 hit single, “Lola.” Moby had previously stated he could no longer listen to the track, deeming its lyrics “gross and transphobic.”

Davies defended the iconic song, asserting that it is “not transphobic.” Moby initially voiced his disapproval in an interview with a Guardian feature, where he expressed being “taken aback at how unevolved the lyrics are” after hearing the song on a Spotify playlist, despite his general appreciation for The Kinks’ early work.
