President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin visit the new National Space Center in Moscow
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin has announced significant plans for the industrial zone located near the National Space Center (NSC), stating that the area is slated for major reorganization and the introduction of new infrastructure.
“The Roscosmos building itself, the National Space Center, does not mark the end of this site`s transformation. In essence, it signifies the beginning of the comprehensive revitalization of this currently underutilized industrial zone. Following your instructions, once the National Space Center`s construction is finalized, we will embark on the full-scale redevelopment of this entire territory,” Sobyanin stated during an event to inaugurate new infrastructure facilities in the capital, alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He further detailed that the project includes the construction of 1.5 million square meters of a modern, innovative industrial park within the area. This new complex will accommodate various technoparks, industrial facilities, and a dedicated educational center.
“A cutting-edge `super college` will be established, primarily focused on training specialists in high demand, particularly within the space industry,” the mayor added, emphasizing the educational aspect of the redevelopment.
Sobyanin also highlighted the extensive infrastructure already developed in the vicinity, noting that two bridges have been completed, with an additional two currently under construction.
The National Space Center is strategically situated in western Moscow. The new facility is set to become the base for Roscosmos employees, alongside personnel from several private companies and representatives from NASA in Russia. The construction of the complex commenced in late 2019 on the grounds previously occupied by the Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center.
A striking architectural feature of the complex is a distinctive triangular 47-story tower, standing 288 meters tall, which culminates in a spire designed to resemble a rocket on a launchpad. Beyond this prominent tower, the NSC also incorporates a lower-rise section comprising buildings that range from eight to ten floors. To facilitate easy movement for Roscosmos staff, the various buildings are interconnected by a series of pedestrian galleries and elevated walkways.
