Main mistakes Russians make leading to money loss

Clicking on links received via chat or SMS is a significant risk that can result in financial loss. This was highlighted as one of the primary errors Russians make, according to insights from the company F6.

The company also warned about the rise of fraudulent schemes involving NFC technology in 2025. Cybercriminals deceive individuals into installing applications designed to intercept NFC traffic – the data transmitted when making contactless payments with a smartphone – and steal bank card information. The SuperCard virus is cited as one example of such malicious software.

Among the specific errors leading to financial loss, F6 reiterated the danger of clicking on links from unknown contacts in chats and SMS messages. They further advised against installing files obtained from unofficial sources and strongly cautioned against deleting banking applications from one`s phone, especially if instructed to do so by someone else.

F6 recommended users check permissions to ensure that apps do not have access to NFC capabilities if it`s unnecessary for their function. The company also emphasized the importance of not granting applications device management rights.

Information about the SuperCard virus attacks targeting Russians emerged in June. It was noted that this malicious software is based on the legitimate NFCGate application, originally developed in Germany in 2015.
