Microsoft is sounding the alarm regarding a serious threat targeting users. Cybercriminals are distributing a malicious .vbs file through WhatsApp, designed to exploit an older feature within Windows.
This file, which often appears as an innocuous attachment, leverages VBScript – a scripting language integrated into Windows for decades, originally intended for automating repetitive tasks. However, upon opening such a .vbs file, a user unwittingly triggers an infection that can lead to the complete takeover of their computer, requiring no further interaction on their part.
Users are urged to exercise extreme caution and vigilance when encountering unknown attachments or unexpected files, particularly those with a .vbs extension, received via messaging platforms like WhatsApp.
