The Washington branch of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has launched a formal inquiry following a series of cyberattacks that targeted over a dozen prominent legal and technology companies across the United States. This development was initially reported by The New York Times.

Among the high-profile entities affected by these breaches was the distinguished law firm Williams & Connolly. This firm is known for representing several influential American politicians, including former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former First Lady Hillary Clinton, who have been notable clients.

Williams & Connolly subsequently informed its clientele that, while unauthorized individuals gained access to a portion of their email correspondence, no sensitive or confidential client information was ultimately compromised or stolen during the incident.

According to the newspaper`s findings, there is a strong suspicion that hackers operating from China may be responsible for orchestrating these coordinated attacks on American businesses.

In a related cybersecurity event reported earlier, hackers successfully breached Cisco firewalls within the U.S. government infrastructure, highlighting ongoing vulnerabilities in critical systems.
