Morgan Nagler, a US artist, embarked on her solo musical journey at 47, a testament to the profound wisdom gained from decades in the industry. Her debut album, “I’ve Got Nothing to Lose, and I’m Losing It,” encapsulates this mature perspective. Having started as a child actor, Nagler eventually gravitated towards music, carving out a tenacious, DIY career fueled by unwavering conviction. Today, she’s a respected co-writer, collaborating with prominent alt-rock figures such as Phoebe Bridgers, Haim, and Kim Deal.
Nagler’s distinctive approach, or “MO,” was evident from a young age. At 11, auditioning for a minor role as a popular girl on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” she faced stiff competition. “There were 200 girls there,” Nagler recalls. Convinced she wouldn’t get the part, she decided to perform the lines as a “super-nerd.” This unconventional choice impressed producers so much that they rewrote the role specifically for her, ultimately casting her to kiss Carlton.
Coincidentally, Nagler now resides in the same Malibu neighborhood as Will Smith, though in a more modest guesthouse within a semi-rustic enclave, far from a celebrity mansion. Her acting career began around age five, shortly after her family relocated from rural Oregon to California. For two decades, she appeared in various shows, including “Frasier,” “Star Trek,” and “Clueless.”
However, at 26, Nagler abandoned her acting career to fully dedicate herself to music. This pivotal decision stemmed from the profound sense of fulfillment she discovered while playing guitar in her trailer during breaks. Despite warnings from others that she was making a mistake, Nagler remained resolute. She explains, “Music is the only thing that makes me feel connected in any meaningful way. For me, that’s way more important than comfort or stability. I’ve always had this blind faith.”
