MVD Recommends Heeding Crucial Digital Notifications

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) of Russia has issued a strong advisory, urging smartphone users not to overlook automatic notifications from their applications. This call was made by the Department for Combating Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Russian MVD, disseminated via their “Russian Cyberpolice Herald” Telegram channel.

“Emails about account logins, SMS messages with verification codes, and alerts concerning suspicious activity might seem like distractions or inconveniences, but they are never generated without substantial justification,” the department emphasized.

The MVD reiterated that these automated notifications are implemented for paramount security reasons, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and critically, to minimize financial losses. The UBK specifically highlighted that diligently observing security protocols is essential for both individual citizens and legal entities to prevent device compromises and safeguard their financial assets.

Law enforcement officials summarized the situation as a clear “win-win”: businesses effectively protect their assets and reputation, while users, in turn, secure their personal data and money.

Separately, experts from a digital expertise center previously warned about a novel form of fraud targeting premium smartphones. They advised consumers to conduct purchases exclusively through official websites and to strictly avoid making advance payments to private individuals or accounts associated with microfinance organizations.
