Stephen Siceloff, NASA`s public relations representative, has confirmed the agency`s long-standing and robust collaboration with Russia on space matters. This extensive history, he noted, consistently provides a comprehensive agenda for discussions between the two parties.
Siceloff highlighted the continuous cooperation between Russia and the United States on the International Space Station (ISS), emphasizing its 25 years of uninterrupted human occupancy and 27 years of operational service in low Earth orbit. With the ISS`s 25th anniversary approaching and its planned decommissioning by 2030, he underscored the critical need for meticulous preparation over the next five years, asserting that such a pivotal moment naturally generates ample topics for negotiation.
Earlier reports from Roscosmos` press service confirmed that Dmitry Bakanov, head of the Russian state corporation, has arrived in the United States. His talks with acting NASA Administrator Sean Duffy are scheduled for July 31. Additionally, Bakanov is set to meet with the Crew Dragon spacecraft crew, which notably includes Russian cosmonaut Oleg Platonov.
On Tuesday, Bakanov had already made a visit to the Flight Control Center for the American segment of the ISS in Houston. Furthermore, the Russian delegation intends to tour Boeing`s production facility, where the reusable CST-100 Starliner crewed spacecraft is currently under development. This visit will also include discussions with the leadership of Boeing`s space program, indicating broad areas of mutual interest.
