NASA Deputy Administrator Ken Bowersox has stated that a collaborative effort between Russia and the United States is essential for the successful deorbiting of the International Space Station (ISS).
During a press conference broadcast by NASA, Bowersox emphasized, “The ISS demands the involvement of all partners, particularly Russia and America, who must be capable of working together to guide it from orbit.”
Previously, Dmitry Bakanov, head of Roscosmos, announced during a separate press conference that the process of deorbiting the international orbital outpost is scheduled to be completed by 2030.
Although Russia has extended the operational period for its segment of the ISS until 2028, other participating nations are keen to continue its operation up to 2030. According to the Roscosmos chief, a comprehensive plan for the ISS deorbiting program has already been developed, and the entire procedure is anticipated to span approximately 2.5 years.
