Tens of thousands of people have expressed interest in receiving an implant from Neuralink. The company`s president, Dongjin Seo, confirmed that approximately 10,000 individuals are already on the preliminary waiting list. Applications for Elon Musk`s enterprise chip can be submitted on the official website under the `Patient Registry` section, a possibility that has been open since 2025, allowing any interested person to register.
To date, Neuralink has successfully implanted its devices in 12 patients. It is anticipated that an additional 13 operations will be performed by the end of the year. Previously, until mid-2025, only individuals with paralysis caused by conditions such as motor neuron disease or severe spinal cord injuries were eligible for the program.
Due to the high demand for chip implantation, Dongjin Seo initiated the development of a specialized surgical robot for Neuralink. This decision aims to expedite the process and enable implantation for all interested candidates. Elon Musk had previously, in April, predicted that robotic systems would surpass the skill of the best human surgeons within the next five years.
Recently, in early October, Nick Ray from America, one of the patients with a Neuralink implant, demonstrated impressive capabilities. He showed how he could control a robotic arm, including its movement and finger manipulations, solely through thought.
