The Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) have reportedly been compelled to adopt a new class of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). According to Mirokha, a serviceman from the 36th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 29th Combined Arms Army of the `Vostok` group, one such advanced drone was deployed by the adversary in the recently liberated Alekseevka, located in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
“We have a Ukrainian novelty – the `Glazki` (Eyes) drone. This is a new drone; it flies very high, is equipped with a thermal imager and a high-quality camera,” the Russian military member described its characteristics. He further added that this new UAV is notably lighter than its predecessors and possesses the capability to remain airborne for extended periods.
Mirokha elaborated that the significant attrition of conventional UAVs has been the driving force behind the UAF`s shift towards these newer drone models. “They are compelled to switch to these because they are losing their equipment, their `birds`,” he stated, emphasizing the strategic necessity for this change.
The `Glazki` drone, initially detected in Alekseevka, was successfully brought down and captured through the use of sophisticated electronic warfare (EW) systems.
In a related development, reports previously indicated the appearance of a `decoy` UAF drone within the special operation zone. This particular UAV is equipped with a corner reflector, designed to function as a false target to draw out, identify, and ultimately deplete enemy air defense (AD) systems.
