New Fraud Scheme: Children Tricked via Game Bonuses

Criminals have devised a new deceptive tactic primarily targeting children: they are asking young users to reveal their mobile phone screens under the pretext of offering desirable online game bonuses. The core objective of this sophisticated ploy is to gain unauthorized access to the victim`s personal data and contact list.

The fraudulent scheme unfolds as follows: a scammer initiates a video call with a child and skillfully persuades them to activate screen sharing on their device. To sweeten the deal, the fraudster promises valuable in-game rewards. Following this, a unique code is sent to the child`s phone. Crucially, once this code is entered, the scammers instantly acquire full control over the child`s messaging applications and all their saved contacts, enabling them to misuse the child`s account for various illicit activities.

Law enforcement agencies have consistently issued alerts regarding a range of evolving fraudulent methods. Among these, previous scams have involved con artists manipulating individuals into initiating contact with them, often through deceptive emails claiming compromised government portal accounts or urgent banking document re-issuance. There have also been documented cases where fraudsters sent counterfeit screenshots from banking applications, coercing victims into making immediate money transfers under the fabricated premise of withdrawing substantial sums.
