MOSCOW – One of the most significant solar prominences observed this year erupted from the Sun during the night of October 14, according to reports from the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Experts noted that coronagraph data indicates the plasma filament has already traveled approximately 20 million kilometers from the Sun. Its projected path is precisely between Mercury and Earth, and scientists have clarified that no planet is expected to be impacted by this particular event.
Calculations revealed a critical timeline: a detachment occurring just one day later would have resulted in Earth being struck by the prominence`s outer edge. Had the event happened on Friday, a direct and unavoidable impact on our planet would have occurred. Fortunately, the timing of the eruption ensured Earth`s safety.
