Sam Altman, the head of OpenAI, believes that modern computers were not designed to work with artificial intelligence (AI). He stated this during the OpenAI Podcast, as reported by Windows Central.

The leader of the company that created the ChatGPT chatbot said that modern personal computers (PCs) were developed for a world where there was no AI. “Now we live in a different world, and what you expect from hardware and software is changing quite quickly,” Altman noted.

The entrepreneur criticized the PCs available on the market and emphasized that current devices poorly consider context and cannot predict user actions. Altman also stated that in the near future, users may even abandon traditional PCs and smartphones entirely, as it will be more convenient for them to interact with technology in ways other than looking at a screen.

Windows Central journalists noted a contradiction — they recalled that in 2024, Altman said that the upcoming AI revolution would not require the widespread replacement of computers and other equipment. According to the media authors, the head of OpenAI might be hinting at the growing human need for a new type of gadget — one that Altman himself is developing, along with former Apple chief designer Jony Ive.

In late June, lawyers for entrepreneur Elon Musk stated during court proceedings against OpenAI that the billionaire does not use a personal computer. However, journalists from Wired believe that Musk is lying to avoid disclosing personal information through the court.
