Pixar Leadership Justifies Removing LGBTQ+ Elements from ‘Elio’: ‘Not Making Therapy’

Pixar’s chief creative officer, Pete Docter, has indicated that the studio will prioritize commercially viable films, a shift that follows internal disagreement regarding the removal of scenes from the upcoming 2025 movie ‘Elio’ that suggested the lead character was gay.

Docter clarified that the decision to cut LGBTQ+ plot elements from ‘Elio’ stemmed from the belief that Pixar’s role is not to create ‘therapy.’ His comments came during a recent interview, following the successful debut of Pixar’s latest film, ‘Hoppers,’ which topped the North American box office in its opening weekend.
