Potential SFR Acquisition Could Lead to 25% Mobile Plan Price Hike in France

The history of telecommunications in France is punctuated by key moments. The year 2012 remains etched in memory with the arrival of Free Mobile, which dramatically disrupted the market by offering mobile plans at unprecedentedly low prices, notably its emblematic 2-euro offer.

We might be on the cusp of a new major turning point around 2026, should SFR disappear as an independent operator. Such an operation would effectively reduce the number of major players in the French market from four to three. This consolidation raises significant concerns about its impact on competition and, consequently, on consumer prices. Some experts predict that this reduction in the number of operators could potentially lead to a substantial increase in mobile plan prices, estimated at 25%.
