A powerful M-class solar flare was recorded on the Sun on Tuesday morning, according to the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS). The laboratory reported that the latest flare occurred at 07:39 Moscow time, reaching an M1.1 level.
Scientists had previously warned about the emergence of a new coronal hole on the Sun, which was expected to trigger moderate geomagnetic storms on Earth on Tuesday. These geomagnetic disturbances can disrupt power systems and affect the migration paths of birds and animals.
Stronger storms may cause issues with shortwave radio communication, navigation systems, and lead to voltage fluctuations in industrial grids. Furthermore, increased solar activity contributes to expanding the geographical areas where auroras, or polar lights, can be observed.
However, despite ongoing research, there is still no definitive answer regarding the precise impact of magnetic storms on human health.
