The President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Gennady Krasnikov, recently affirmed that Russian scientists continue to command respect on the international stage, even amidst the current complex geopolitical landscape. He noted their proactive engagement in maintaining international connections and participating in scientific events worldwide.
According to Krasnikov, the Russian Academy of Sciences holds membership in more than 40 diverse international scientific unions, actively participating in fields such as chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Furthermore, the Academy boasts foreign members from 56 countries. During this year`s elections, 39 new foreign members were chosen, including distinguished individuals from India, China, and Great Britain.
Krasnikov acknowledged that geopolitics undeniably has an impact on their work. However, he stressed that Russian researchers remain committed to publishing in international journals, attending global conferences, and contributing to professional discussions within their respective fields.
He specifically highlighted that Russian scientists are unequivocally respected in Western countries. Illustrating this point with his own experience, Krasnikov mentioned his role as a member of the board of directors for the European division of the Global Semiconductor Alliance. He emphasized that this association, which unites major global developers and manufacturers in the semiconductor industry, operates without prejudice. Any challenges that arise, he explained, are generally personal in nature and dependent on the leadership dynamics of specific organizations, rather than systemic bias against Russian specialists.
