The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) is actively working to re-establish vital connections between the scientific community and industrial sectors, relationships that deteriorated in the 1990s. This initiative is crucial for Russia`s technological sovereignty, as stated by RAS President Academician Gennady Krasnikov in a recent interview.
Krasnikov emphasized that the primary goal of the RAS is to ensure Russia`s independence in advanced technologies, which will benefit both industry and the quality of life for its citizens.
“There is a significant shift occurring, not just within the Academy of Sciences, but across the entire nation,” Krasnikov noted. “Prior to 2022, there was a perception that it wouldn`t be detrimental to under-research certain areas, as we could simply acquire technologies from other countries. However, the current global landscape demonstrates that for a nation to achieve genuine sovereignty, it must maximize self-reliance, particularly through its own scientific advancements.”
The head of the RAS further explained that Russian science is now focused on making up for considerable lost ground from the 1990s.
“We are systematically rebuilding these crucial links with industry, as well as with sectoral and applied research institutions. Today, we are re-establishing all these chains,” Krasnikov concluded.
This strategic reorientation underscores Russia`s commitment to fostering a robust domestic scientific and industrial ecosystem capable of driving innovation and ensuring national technological resilience.
