The official website for Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg has reportedly been subjected to a cyberattack, with initial assessments suggesting an origin in Ukraine. This incident was brought to light on Friday, September 19th.
Details emerging indicate that the digital intrusion occurred approximately at 10:30 AM Moscow time. According to initial findings, the hacker attack was launched from outside Russia`s borders, with preliminary data specifically pointing towards Ukraine as the source of the cyberactivity.
Despite the website compromise, airport officials have issued statements confirming that operations at Pulkovo Airport remained unaffected. Flights continued to depart and arrive on schedule, operating under normal conditions throughout the incident.
Earlier on September 19th, the breach of the Pulkovo website was first disclosed. Airport representatives conveyed their apologies to passengers for any potential inconvenience and assured the public that dedicated efforts were underway to fully restore the website`s functionality.
This event follows a similar security incident in July, when the information systems of Aeroflot, a major Russian airline, were targeted by hackers. That particular cyberattack reportedly granted unauthorized access to employees` personal computers. Aeroflot`s operations were subsequently restored after the breach was contained.
