Brevard County, Florida – Dmitry Bakanov, the head of Roscosmos, announced that the Russian and American space agencies, Roscosmos and NASA, have reached an agreement to include future cooperation on the use of national orbital stations in their agenda. These stations are planned to succeed the International Space Station (ISS) once it is decommissioned.
Bakanov stated, “We will further develop topics for a joint agenda, which we have agreed to encompass the use of our national orbital stations that will follow the ISS, and how we will interact in their operations and for various deep space missions.”
This declaration came after a series of discussions held in the United States between Dmitry Bakanov and Sean Duffy, who serves as the U.S. Secretary of Transportation and acting NASA administrator. This particular meeting marked the first face-to-face encounter between the leaders of the two prominent space agencies since 2018. During their talks, Bakanov also extended an invitation to Duffy to attend the upcoming launch of an American astronaut from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in November, an invitation which Duffy confirmed his acceptance of.
Furthermore, Bakanov indicated that upon his return from the United States, he intends to report the outcomes of these crucial negotiations with the American delegation to President Vladimir Putin.
