Dmitry Bakanov, head of the Russian space corporation Roscosmos, commented that discussing new large-scale joint projects with NASA in the current geopolitical climate is “somewhat ambitious.” This statement came after his meeting with acting NASA Administrator Sean Duffy in the United States. During their talks, topics of cooperation on the International Space Station, lunar programs, and deep space exploration were addressed.
Bakanov emphasized the importance of securing confirmation from NASA`s leadership regarding the continuation of existing collaboration, as this was their first meeting, and preventing a breakdown in contacts was crucial. He added that, despite the complex situation, the parties also discussed matters concerning national orbital stations, including the “synchronization of several technical solutions” necessary for continued operations in orbit.
