Russian Authorities Address Healthcare Sector Cyber Incidents
Roskomnadzor, Russia`s federal executive body overseeing media and internet activities, has released a statement regarding recent cyberattacks that targeted the “Stolichki” pharmacy chain and “Semeyny Doktor” medical clinics.
The agency`s Center for Monitoring and Management of Public Communication Networks (TsMU SSOP) confirmed that it registered operational disruptions within these healthcare establishments. However, Roskomnadzor clarified that no indications characteristic of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack were identified. Investigations into the precise causes of these incidents are actively ongoing.
Impact on Affected Organizations and Recovery Efforts
Earlier reports had detailed a significant cyber-intrusion against the “Semeyny Doktor” clinic network. This attack reportedly resulted in the compromise and subsequent loss of their patient database, compelling medical professionals to resort to manual record-keeping during consultations.
In a related event, a hacker attack on the prominent “Stolichki” pharmacy chain was publicly disclosed on July 29. Representatives for the company have affirmed that comprehensive efforts to fully restore their network operations are presently underway. They also noted that approximately half of their pharmacy outlets are already back to functioning normally, serving customers.
