Russia has reportedly started deploying a new type of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in Ukraine. The drone is being used for intelligence gathering along border and frontline routes, as well as to monitor the activity of Ukrainian air defense systems.
According to drone and communications expert Sergey Beskrestnov, the design of this new drone outwardly imitates the appearance of a “Shahed” type drone, which could make it more difficult for Ukrainian forces to identify and distinguish. The drone is said to operate at altitudes ranging from one to three kilometers. At this height, it is reportedly capable of transmitting imagery over a distance exceeding 50 kilometers.
This development follows recent reports from earlier in June, when Russian forces were said to have utilized a new “Klin” kamikaze drone. The “Klin” was reportedly employed to target a Ukrainian unmanned surface vessel (USV) in the Black Sea and is equipped with a warhead designed for airburst detonation, intended to increase the area of effect upon impact.
