Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, has revealed a new scam targeting Russian citizens. Fraudsters are now impersonating clinic doctors to steal personal data.
According to Nemkin, these criminals call individuals, posing as medical professionals, and urgently insist on scheduling medical check-ups, vaccinations, or routine examinations. To make their calls more convincing, the scammers may deliberately introduce audio interference, making it harder for the victim to hear clearly and potentially doubt the caller`s legitimacy.
Following this, under the guise of needing to complete a form, the fraudsters extract personal details from the unsuspecting individual. This confidential information then falls into the hands of the criminals. Nemkin also warned that victims might be tricked into transferring money or granting access to their email accounts.
Important Advice: “An additional psychological tactic used is pressure through urgency, such as stating: `If you don`t get examined right now, there will be a problem.` The deputy emphasized that if a caller insists on immediate action, it is almost always a sign of a scam.”
Nemkin had previously outlined typical phrases used by phone scammers. These commonly include requests for personal data and offers of seemingly profitable deals or prizes.
