Fraudsters are now leveraging artificial intelligence to create digital replicas of deceased individuals, which they then use for illicit purposes. This alarming trend was reported by TASS, citing insights from the Digital Expertise Center of Roskachestvo.
Experts have detailed that these digital copies are generated using sophisticated neural network algorithms. Once created, these virtual personas are exploited by malicious actors for various deceptive schemes.
“Initially, such technological advancements were developed with therapeutic intent, designed to help individuals navigate profound grief by offering a symbolic `interaction` with a digital projection of a loved one who has passed,” specialists explained.
Roskachestvo further warned that these digital fakes might be employed to recommend purchases of goods or services to Russian citizens, or even to solicit financial donations and aid.
In a related development, the Ministry of Internal Affairs previously issued a caution regarding a new scam involving voice verification for passports, highlighting the evolving tactics of cybercriminals.
