Cybercriminals have started targeting individuals involved in the Special Military Operation (SVO), luring them with promises of “support” to illicitly obtain funds. These fraudulent schemes exploit the vulnerability of military personnel and their families.
Reports indicate that these fraudsters are setting up fake websites specifically for Russian military personnel, advertising fictitious monthly stipends and a one-time payment of 500,000 rubles. To enhance credibility and deceive victims, these sites feature deepfake videos presenting fabricated positive testimonials from supposed beneficiaries.
In a related incident highlighting the broad impact of such cyber-scams, a 13-year-old boy in Moscow was recently located after disappearing post-interaction with fraudsters. He had received suspicious messages from individuals impersonating police, who demanded proof that he had no connections to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
