Researchers have identified a crucial mechanism driving the stubborn recurrence of small cell lung cancer (SCLC). They found that the absence of a specific protein in SCLC cells initiates an inflammatory response that paradoxically supports tumor growth and metastasis. This protein loss also transforms cancer cells into a highly aggressive, neuron-like phenotype, strongly associated with patient relapse.
