Renowned actor Sean Penn, who recently chose to forgo the Academy Awards ceremony, received a distinctive award during his visit to Ukraine: an ‘Oscar’ created from the remnants of a Ukrainian railway carriage. This unique accolade, sculpted from the metal of a Ukrainian train carriage struck by Russian missiles, was presented to Penn by Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, CEO of Ukrainian railways.
Describing the flat, silver, Academy Award-shaped statue, Pertsovskyi quipped, “You’re missing Oscars, so we made this one,” highlighting the poignant symbolism of the gift. Penn’s presence in Ukraine underscores his continued support for the nation amidst ongoing conflict.
