A company affiliated with Sony Corporation has unveiled an electric vehicle (EV) that features built-in gaming console functionalities, according to reports from the publication Engadget.
The Afeela EV was announced by Sony Honda Mobility (SHM), a collaborative joint venture between the two major Japanese corporations, Sony and Honda. Sony specialists were responsible for integrating support for the PS5 console into the vehicle, allowing rear-seat passengers to play games even while the car is in motion.
Media reports clarify that the Afeela EV does not contain a physical PlayStation console. Instead, the onboard computer system utilizes the PS Remote Play function. This allows passengers to access Sony games through the car’s dedicated multimedia display. The system is also compatible with the proprietary DualSense controllers.
The company noted that for optimal gaming performance, high-speed internet access is required, specifying a minimum speed of 5 megabits per second (Mbps) and a recommended minimum speed of 15 Mbps. Deliveries of the Afeela are currently scheduled to commence in 2026.
In related news, Sony began selling an updated version of the PlayStation 5 console in early December. This new revision features a liquid metal thermal interface material (TIM) filler, designed to effectively solve overheating issues previously experienced by the standard PS5 model.
